Kuhusu Let’s Read Tanzania

Let’s Read Tanzania is an initiative that started more by default than by design. It was the result of a Twitter discussion that Tanzanians were not reading, or at least not reading enough. The discussion was around how the reading culture had just disappeared. The main question was then what do we do! Initially a few of us started exchanging titles of books we had read, commented briefly on the books we liked and hey presto a movement had began.
Am always reminded of Malcolm Gladwell’s book Critical Mass and that once you get a certain critical mass around a certain issue, the dynamics will change. In this case there was much more discussion on books and reading on twitter, followed by the hashtag LetsReadTZ. There were more discussions about books and the need to inculcate a reading culture. It was felt that nobody could be forced to read but the aim should be to inspire Tanzanians to read and hence the Lets Read movement with this interactive website.
This platform will enable people to exchange books, pick their favourites, hold forum discussions and donate books. It
is my hope that we will use the Lets read platform to encourage all Tanzanians to read a bit more.
